The Role of Parents in Spiritual Growth
Bible Verse: “Train
up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from
it.” – Proverbs 22:6
Exhortation (What, Why, How):
What:
Parents are the first pastors, teachers, and role models their children will
ever know. God has placed on them the sacred duty to nurture their children’s
spiritual growth.
Why:
If parents fail to build their children spiritually, the world will train them
in its ways. Children are like fresh soil—whatever seed is planted will grow.
When parents guide them in the ways of God, they are laying foundations that
will stand for generations.
How:
- Teach
God’s Word daily – Deuteronomy
6:6–7 commands parents to teach the Word diligently.
- Lead
by example – Children learn
more from what you do than from what you say.
- Establish
family altar – Prayer and
worship should be consistent in the home.
- Encourage
church participation – Bring
children to fellowship and let them serve in God’s house.
- Discipline
with love – Correct with
wisdom, not anger, showing God’s love in correction.
God’s Expectation:
God expects parents
to raise godly seed (Malachi 2:15), not just children. He desires homes that
produce sons and daughters who know Him, walk in His ways, and impact the world
for Christ.
Prayer Points:
- Lord, help me fulfill my responsibility
as a parent in raising godly children.
- Father, give me wisdom and patience to
guide my children in Your ways.
- Lord, remove every distraction that
makes me neglect my children’s spiritual growth.
- Father, let my life be an example of
godliness to my family.
- Lord, empower me to establish and
maintain a strong family altar.
- Every satanic agenda against my
children’s destiny, scatter in Jesus’ name.
- Father, make my children lovers of Your
Word and prayer.
- Lord, let my family serve You
wholeheartedly from generation to generation.
