The Role of Children in Their Own Spiritual Growth
Bible Verse: “How
can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.”
– Psalm 119:9
Exhortation (What, Why, How):
What:
Children and youths are not too young to know God. Spiritual growth is a
personal journey, and every child has a role to play in building his or her
relationship with the Lord.
Why:
Parents, pastors, and teachers can guide, but children must choose to walk with
God. Samuel, Timothy, and even Jesus at age 12 show that young people can grow
strong in spirit and wisdom when they seek God early (1 Samuel 2:26, 2 Timothy
3:15, Luke 2:52).
How:
- Read
and study the Bible daily –
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet.”
- Pray
regularly – Prayer is a
child’s direct connection with God.
- Obey
parents and spiritual leaders
– Ephesians 6:1, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is
right.”
- Flee
bad company – 1 Corinthians
15:33, “Bad company corrupts good character.”
- Serve
in church – Even at a young
age, serving builds discipline and strengthens faith.
- Practice
holiness – Choosing what is
right, even when no one is watching.
God’s Expectation:
God expects children
to seek Him while they are young (Ecclesiastes 12:1). He desires them to grow
in wisdom, knowledge, and obedience, shining as light among their peers.
Prayer Points:
- Lord, give me a heart that loves You
from my youth.
- Father, help me to study and obey Your
Word daily.
- Lord, keep me from wrong friends and bad
influences.
- Father, help me to obey my parents and
teachers with joy.
- Lord, let me grow in wisdom, knowledge,
and spiritual strength.
- Father, make me an example of godliness
among my friends.
- Lord, help me to serve You faithfully in
my church.
- Father, let me never depart from Your
ways all the days of my life.
