Becoming an instrument of change prayers
Bible Reading: 1
Samuel 14:1-15
“1 Now it came to
pass upon a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that
bare his armour, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines' garrison, that is
on the other side. But he told not his father…
6 And Jonathan
said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the
garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for
there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.
7 And his
armourbearer said unto him, Do all that is in thine heart: turn thee; behold, I
am with thee according to thy heart.
8 Then said
Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over unto these men, and we will discover
ourselves unto them.
9 If they say thus
unto us, Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and
will not go up unto them.
10 But if they say
thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the LORD hath delivered them
into our hand: and this shall be a sign unto us.
11 And both of
them discovered themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines: and the
Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they
had hid themselves.
12 And the men of
the garrison answered Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us,
and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armourbearer, Come up
after me: for the LORD hath delivered them into the hand of Israel.
13 And Jonathan
climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him:
and they fell before Jonathan; and his armourbearer slew after him.
14 And that first
slaughter, which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was about twenty men, within
as it were an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow.
15 And there was
trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison,
and the spoilers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked: so it was a very
great trembling.”
Generally, our society is full of potentials and desire for
change. Many see change as something needed but never ready for a change. The
change will not happen until someone surrenders him/herself as an instrument of
change. The people of God had been on the battlefield for many days looking for
a change, but nothing happened until Jonathan decided to become an instrument
of change in the hands of God.
·
Jonathan desires a vision for a change
·
He believes that he can change the situation
with help of God.
·
He secretly started the journey with his vision
supporters [armourbearer] but hide from his father [vision destroyer]- don’t
reveal your vision secret to those that can kill it.
·
He encouraged himself in the Lord and take the
first step.
If you want God to use you to change things, you must
believe in God of possibility. You must only rely on God’s strength and mighty.
Only those that rely on God, depend on the power of the Holy
Spirit and believe only in their possibility through the power of God are making
changes to any situation. Your condition is not beyond change. Your situation
can be changed. It can be changed if you desire to change it. But you must
first change yourself to the direction of God. You must change your thought to
the way God thinks. You must see yourself as God sees you.
God said: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher
than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth
not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it brings forth and bud, that
it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not
return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall
prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the
mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the
trees of the field shall clap their hands.” Isaiah 55:8-12
Let your thoughts align with God’s plan. God wants to use you
for a change, but you must make yourself ready as Jonathan did. Surrender
yourself to Jesus Christ now, and never rely on your own strength. Matthew
11:28
