3 Whenever the Israelites planted their crops, the Midianites, Amalekites, and the people from the east would attack them.

4 They invaded the land and devoured their crops all the way to Gaza. They left nothing for the Israelites to eat, and they took away the sheep, oxen, and donkeys.

5 When they invaded with their cattle and tents, they were as thick as locusts. Neither they nor their camels could be counted. They came to devour the land.

6 Israel was so severely weakened by Midian that the Israelites cried out to the Lord for help.

7 When the Israelites cried out to the Lord for help because of Midian,

8 he sent a prophet to the Israelites. He said to them, "This is what the Lord God of Israel says: 'I brought you up from Egypt and took you out of that place of slavery.

9 I rescued you from Egypt's power and from the power of all who oppressed you. I drove them out before you and gave their land to you.

10 I said to you, "I am the Lord your God! Do not worship the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are now living!" But you have disobeyed me."

There is no doubt that what happenings in our land at this present time is not an ordinary issue. It is an occurrence that needs both physical and spiritual attention. Invoking the invisible hand of evil that is trouble the land should be the general concern of all Yoruba indigene – educated or not, rich or poor, home and abroad, male or female, young or adult, etc.

Many people asked why is it necessary to pray for Yorubaland at this point in time. Firstly, let me quickly tell you that it is very important and urgent to intercede for the Yorubaland because of many reasons which include:

Yorubaland is one of the lands where the Gospel was widely accepted and proclaimed around the West African nations and the rest of Africa. The devil is not happy about this. He now uses every means to sabotage the land so that the gospel can be stopped. Satan and his agents have targeted the Yorubaland because of the spreading of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He plans to erase the power of Christianity so that the spreading of the gospel within and outside the land will longer be effective. Meanwhile, the Lord Jesus Christ publicly promised that the gates of hell shall not prevail the gospel. Matthew 16:18.

To be sincere with ourselves, the devil and his followers have almost succeeded in turning the Yorubaland into a war zone, degrading, and isolated states. It has turned to land that experience setback and unpleasant. Everything is almost standstill. With God on our side, surely, we will overcome and rule over the enemies.

Many people including Christians do not realize that much of the churches that were well-recognized around the world and Africa today are established by Yoruba indigenes. The first Pentecostal church in Nigeria is established by Yoruba man and established in Yoruba speaking states. While many Yoruba sons and daughters around the world are the best in their careers in terms of health, technology, etc. Remember, the first terrestrial television station in Africa was established in Yorubaland by Yoruba son, it belonged to the Western Nigeria Television Service (WNTS), and the first radio station in Nigeria was established in Ibadan in 1939. The first Nigerian female professor of psychiatry, a first-ever female combat helicopter pilot in Nigeria Air Force, and the first woman to drive a motor in Nigeria are Yorubas, and the most populated Pentecostal church in Nigeria and in Africa is located in the Yorubaland and presided by Yoruba indigene. Mind you, Satan and his kingdom hate the Yorubaland for this. In addition, as the Yoruba goes, so goes the rest of Nigeria.

Secondly, it is our obligation to defend our land and Christian values and the position to the Word of God to establish the truth. The Bible says: “We shall know the truth, and the truth shall set us free”.

We have an obligation to always pray for our land for God to deliver the land from the forces of wickedness that desire to dominate the entire region. Although, it is not mandatory to join us in this prayer because many will see it as a waster of time, or uncalled for.

One of our spiritual obligations as a Christian is fervently praying for our land, and the people therein. It is a command from God.

"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior;” 1 Timothy 2:1-3

Praying for the state where you are a citizen is one of the secrets which our heroes in faith understood and built their ministry and spirituality. For instance, the great reformer and prayer warrior John Knox prayed that; “O Lord, give me Scotland or I die.” God did not hesitate to answer his prayer. Because it is a powerful prayer bomb that touched heaven and well written in the Scriptures.

“…give me this mountain, …And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.” Joshua 14:12-13

Thirdly, Yorubaland is our inheritance, and we must protect it and possess it. It is a bastard child that will see his inheritance destroy by the enemies and do nothing about it. When Jesus entered His Father’s house, He saw people polluted and destroyed it, He chased them out immediately. John 2:13-16, Luke 19:45-46, Mark 11:15-17

“When they arrived in Jerusalem, Jesus went to the Temple and began to drive out all those who were buying and selling. He overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the stools of those who sold pigeons,

and he would not let anyone carry anything through the Temple courtyards.

He then taught the people: “It is written in the Scriptures that God said, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer for the people of all nations.’ But you have turned it into a hideout for thieves!” Mark 11:15-17

God is not happy with people that turn His house into a hideout for thieves, secret meetings for corruption, or a den of evildoers. As Jesus chased the invaders out of the house of God, so also you have the right to chase away any evil doers that stand against your inheritance. But you can do this with the help of the Almighty God.

Mind you, your nation is your inheritance, your city is your inheritance, your villages or town is your inheritance. Don’t allow invaders to takeover your possession. Arise, don’t be afraid. Be courageous and steadfast in the Lord.

Fourthly, God is not happy with anyone that does not support the protection of His people. Interestingly, God is not happy with anyone that refuses to support His people to overcome their challenges. If you are not in support of total freedom for your land, you definitely the enemy of your land.

“Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the LORD, curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty.” Judges 5:23

The LORD was unhappy and He cursed Meroz because the people refused to join the armies of heaven to fight battles against the enemy of Israel. It can a great disaster for any believer not to join the armies of God to fight the spiritual battle against the enemies of Yorubaland.

Remember, the enemies of Yorubaland are stated in Ephesians 6:12

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12

The enemies to focus our prayer against are principalities, powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places. The 'principalities and powers' in the verse represent the sum-total of evil powers that threaten men both heavenly and earthly. Our prayers are not against human beings, but against our enemies list in Ephesians 6:12.

However, these enemies have a backup through the kingdom of Satan and don’t forget, Jesus had defeated the power of Satan through His death and resurrection at the Cross of Calvary.

Joining intercessor to fight the Lord’s battles have great reward both materially, physically and spiritually such as blessings of dominion, peace, restoration, and promotion.

What can we do now?

“If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven, I will forgive their sin and I will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

Repentance is the number one key to get the answer to our prayers, and humility is the first step to repentance. We must humble ourselves before God, and repent all our sins and forsake them. Only God has the power to silence every invader that may war against our land.

8.       Any power manipulating the planned and purposed of God against the Yorubaland, be arrested in the name of Jesus.

9.       Any evil agents assigned to monitoring the citizen of the Yoruba States, be scattered unto desolation by fire in the name of Jesus.

10.   Every wicked propaganda against the land of Yoruba, receive failure and permanent destruction in the name of Jesus.

12.   Father, let the Yoruba states continue to be the salt and light of the earth in the name of Jesus. 

13.   Any power manipulating the spirit realm against the divine solution for Yorubaland, fall down, and die in the name of Jesus.

14.   Every global gang-up against Yorubaland be scattered unto desolation by thunder in the name of Jesus.

15.   Any hidden secret organized against Yorubaland, be exposed and scattered, in the name of Jesus.

16.   Father, every conspiracy against the progress of Yoruba people within and outside be scattered by fire, in the name of Jesus.

17.   Father, let the Lion of Judah arise and roar against all the enemies of Yoruba states, in the name of Jesus.

18.   Every enemy of Yorubaland both domestic and foreign, de disgrace and received sudden judgment in the name of Jesus.

19.   My Father and my Lord, arise and visit the Yorubaland with your fire of deliverance in the name of Jesus.

20.   Every demonic planned to turn the Yoruba region to isolation, be scattered by the fire of God, in the name of Jesus.

21.   Father, surround all Yorubaland with Your fire, in the name of Jesus.

22.   Father, any satanic candidate that vowed to handover Yorubaland to the enemy, let them receive an instant judgment of no mercy in the name of Jesus.

23.   Father, surround your people in the Yoruba land with the electric fence of divine protection, in the name of Jesus.

24.   Father, surround your people in the Yoruba land with your wall of fire in the name of Jesus.

25.   Father, take control of Yorubaland with Your mighty power, in the name of Jesus.

26.   Father, dispatch your angels of fire and war to arrest the evil plans of the enemy in Yorubaland, in the name of Jesus.

27.   Every yoke of disunity among the Yoruba states, be scattered by fire, in the name of Jesus.

28.   By the blood of Jesus, we break the curse of disunity among the Yorubas states, in the name of Jesus.

29.   By the blood of Jesus, we break the curse of disunity among the Yorubas leaders, in the name of Jesus.

30.   By the blood of Jesus, we break the chain of disunity among the Yorubas states, in the name of Jesus.

31.   By the mighty power of God, we uprooted the seed of disunity among the Yorubas citizen in the name of Jesus.

32.   By the mighty power of God, we uprooted the seed of tribalism among the Yorubas citizen in the name of Jesus.

33.   Every seed of disunity among the Yorubas leaders, be uprooted in the name of Jesus.

34.   Father, dispatch your angels of fire and war to arrest the evil agenda of the enemy in Yorubaland, in the name of Jesus.

35.   Any evil planted to destroy Yorubaland be uprooted by fire, in the name of Jesus.

36.   Any evil altar mounted to destroy the peace of Yorubaland, be scattered by the thunder of God, in the name of Jesus.

37.   Father, let the precious blood of Jesus Christ covered all the Yorubaland in the name of Jesus.
