Bible Reading: 2 Kings 4:1-7

“1 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead, and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not anything in the house, save a pot of oil.

3 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.

4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.

5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.

6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.

7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.” 2 Kings 4:1-7

Freedom from debt is one of the fundamental rights and prayers for every believer. Biblically, to be free from debt is one of the prayers that the Lord Jesus Christ taught His disciples.

“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” Mathew 6:12

Debt is an enemy of human beings, and it is an obstacle to a successful life. Businesses can collapse, while marriage can scatter as a result of debt if such persons involved are not careful to deal with it. Debt can be trigger by the devil, and one can lives under debt throughout his life if urgent steps are not applying.

Many people are under the power of debt, trying to be free but they could not because they already chained with debt. Mind you, there is a force behind every debt. Such force always wars against the debtors so that they wouldn’t be able to pay their debts.

In 2Kings 4:1-7, it is revealed that the debtor in the passage was a man that fears God, and a prophet, but he died in debt. “Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.” 2 Kings 4:1

The above bible verse spelled out who her husband is and the reason why the two sons will become a slave to the creditor. That her husband was a man who feared the Lord indicates the debt she inherited is not caused by her and at the same time not caused by her husband’s foolishness, but by situations forced upon him as a believer in his day of apostasy.

The Old Testament Law specifically stated that: a person in debt and without the means of repayment or collateral could be forced into bondage as a servant (or his sons) until the year of Jubilee, (Leviticus 25:39-41). Now, the creditor came to take the two sons of the prophet to work off their father’s debt. But we thank God for the wife of the prophet that came to the right place for a solution.

Mind you, Jesus Christ is the only and final solution to every problem. No option for your problem except Jesus Christ. He is the one that owns the key to solve your problems and provide solutions to your debt. Matthew 11:28, Revelation 3:7

Facts about debt:

§  Debt is a calamity that can easily bestow on you through ignorance. A debtor is a slave to the creditor.

§  Debt leads to bondage and sabotage, that’s you continuing serving your creditor. Remember whosoever you allow to be your creditor, you are a slave to him or her. Proverbs 22:7

§  A man in debt can be controlled with the bondage of fear. This can also result in a lack of peace and rest of mind. For instance, during the reign of King David, it was recorded that, people in debt ran to David at the cave for assistance and safety. These debtors are distressed and could not have peace of mind.

“And every one that was in distress, and everyone that was in debt, and everyone that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.” 1 Samuel 22:2

§  Debt can lead you to shame and uncontrolled emotions.

§  Reduce the confidence the people have with you, and disbalance you.

§  Misunderstanding in the family, and loss of respect.

§  Take away liberty and unable to say the truth and unable to work freely in society.

§  It can affect your brain abnormally because you will be only thinking about how to be free from debt and this can lead to another debt.

§  Debt can cause you to lose your properties to creditors. 2 Kings 4:1

How to escape from debt?

Free from the chain of debt cannot suddenly happen, you must take drastic steps which includes:

§  Involve God and allow Him to take over the debt. Matthew 11:28

§  Acknowledge the condition of your debt. Be open to the reality that you are a debtor.

§  Have a passion to be debt-free. Freedom started from the mind, and it can only manifest when action and faith joined together.

§  List your debt in order. Know every debt you own and identify the creditors.

§  Negotiate with your creditors. Don’t run away from your creditors, have a cordial discussion with your creditors. Don’t hide from your creditors. Run or hide from them can lead to arrest and detain you which can lead to another problem.

§  Involving in genuine giving to others. Always have a mind of giving even despite your debts. Luke 6:38

§  Aggressively pursue a saving plan. If you don’t save money you are not safe from debt.

§  Living within your limits. Be content with what God is given to you. Be comfortable with the resources you have. Be satisfied with what you have, don’t envy others.

§  Don’t be carried away with the latest promo or products.

§  Pay your tithe and offerings. Don’t rob God. The number one debt is not paying tithe.

Remember, Jesus Christ is the only and final solution to every problem including your debt. No option for your problem except Jesus Christ. He is the one that owns the key to solve your problems and provide solutions to your debt. Matthew 11:28, Revelation 3:7. Therefore, comes to Him now and surrender your life unto Him.

13.  Father, in your mercy, remove a load of debt in my marriage, in the name of Jesus.

14.  Every satanic agent assigned to fuel debt into my life, receive total destruction, in the name of Jesus.

15.  My business, arise and shine for the glory of God, in the name of Jesus.

16.  Every force of darkness covering my business, scattered by fire, in the name of Jesus.

17.  My business receives divine freedom from the hand of wickedness, in the name of Jesus.

18.  Father, connected me with divine helpers that will pay all my debt, in the name of Jesus.

20.  By the power in the blood of Jesus, I break every covenant of debt in my life, in the name of Jesus.

21.  Every kingdom of debt attached to my business or ministry, be scattered by the thunder of God, in the name of Jesus.
